In an interview published on Thursday, Dec. 4, by British Vogue, the 35-year-old Australian actress spoke honestly about the difficulties she encountered while filming the new adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's classic novel so soon after welcoming her first child with her husband, Tom Ackerley, in October 2024.
Robbie revealed that production began when she was three months postpartum and that the period felt very different from her usual work process. She explained that she did not follow her typical preparation routine and described her approach as more scattered than usual.
She recalled expressing her concerns to writer and director Emerald Fennell, telling her she feared she might not be adequately prepared for the role. According to Robbie, Fennell reassured her by saying she did not want extensive preparation. She encouraged Robbie to stay present in each moment, which the actress said eased her anxiety and shifted her focus from overthinking to staying centered in the physicality of the role.
Robbie and Ackerley welcomed their son, whose name has not been disclosed, on Oct. 17, 2024. A source confirmed the news to PEOPLE in November and added that the couple were enjoying their early days as parents while spending quiet time at home in Los Angeles. The source described them as homebodies who were deeply happy in this new chapter of their lives.
Although Robbie rarely speaks publicly about her child, she told Entertainment Tonight in August 2025 that motherhood has been a wonderful experience. She remarked that it is something easily understood by parents and possibly uninteresting to those who are not raising children.
The 2026 adaptation of Wuthering Heights features Robbie alongside Jacob Elordi, Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, Shazad Latif, Martin Clunes and Ewan Mitchell. The film is based on Brontë's novel about the intense and destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, a connection marked by jealousy, fixation and social barriers that shape generations of their families.
Robbie also spoke to Vogue about the creative conversations she shared with Fennell and Elordi as they looked for ways to portray the passion from the original story. She said they focused on small gestures that felt genuinely intimate rather than obvious displays of sexuality. One memorable moment for her involved Elordi lifting her character with one arm while shielding her face from rain with the other. She said the scene nearly made her weak at the knees.
Robbie added that the film reflects what she and Fennell find compelling as women in their thirties and that it is a romance crafted with their own demographic in mind. Wuthering Heights is scheduled to premiere on February 13, 2026.
