Comedian Andy Dick was reportedly discovered unresponsive on a Hollywood sidewalk after an apparent overdose, marking the latest troubling episode in a long pattern of public struggles. The 59-year-old actor was photographed slumped over a set of stairs outside a building as friends attempted to revive him, according to images published by TMZ on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that emergency responders were dispatched after receiving a call about a 59-year-old man suffering an overdose. Officials said the individual was treated at the scene but declined transportation to a hospital, a scenario not uncommon for patients revived with Narcan, the opioid-reversal spray witnesses say was administered. The Los Angeles Police Department also arrived following the 911 call, though neither agency officially identified Dick as the man involved.
Dick later contacted TMZ directly, telling the outlet that he was alive and recovering, though he offered no additional details about the incident. PEOPLE has not independently confirmed the report and noted that the comedian's representatives did not respond to inquiries.
The episode adds to a lengthy series of legal issues and personal crises that have shadowed Dick's once-prominent career. Over the past decade, he has faced arrests for alleged domestic violence, sexual battery, drug possession, and multiple altercations involving intimate partners and strangers. In 2022, he was detained at an RV campground in Orange County after a man claimed he was assaulted in his sleep, an incident that was partially captured on livestream. He also went to trial that same year for a long-pending case in which he was accused of grabbing an Uber driver's genitals.
Earlier arrests include allegations of attacking partners with household objects, groping individuals in public settings, and several intoxication-related incidents. Dick's behavior has frequently resulted in short jail stints, probation terms, and restraining orders, including one obtained in 2018 by his estranged wife.
Despite his early fame from NewsRadio, The Andy Dick Show and cameo roles in films like Zoolander, Dick's public life has increasingly been defined by addiction and controversy. His latest overdose scare underscores the ongoing dangers surrounding his long-documented substance-abuse struggles.
