Following the official filing of murder charges against their 32-year-old brother, Nick Reiner, the surviving children of Rob and Michele Reiner have released a joint statement addressing the catastrophic loss of their parents. Jake and Romy Reiner, who have remained largely out of the public eye since the bodies of the Hollywood icons were discovered on December 14, 2025, expressed a profound sense of “unimaginable grief and confusion” as they navigate a tragedy that has gripped the nation.

The statement, issued through a family representative on Friday morning, December 19, marks the first time the siblings have spoken publicly since the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office formally charged Nick with two counts of first-degree murder. The charges include special circumstances of multiple murders, which could make him eligible for life without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors allege that Nick killed his father, Rob, 78, and mother, Michele, 68, following a domestic dispute that escalated after a holiday party.

“There are no words to describe the void left by the loss of our mother and father,” the statement began. “They were our anchors, our mentors and our greatest champions. To lose them in such a senseless and violent manner is a nightmare we cannot wake up from.” Jake, 34, a broadcast journalist, and Romy, 27, an actress who was reportedly the one to discover the scene in Brentwood, emphasized that their focus is now on honoring their parents’ legacy of activism and art.

Crucially, the siblings addressed the involvement of their brother, Nick, whose long-documented battle with heroin and opioid addiction was well known to the public through Rob Reiner’s own creative work. While they did not offer a defense for the alleged crimes, they touched upon the complexities of their family dynamic. “We have spent years as a family trying to navigate the dark and often hopeless path of addiction and mental illness. We loved our brother, but we are now forced to face a reality where that same struggle has led to the ultimate heartbreak.”

The Reiner family has asked for continued privacy as they prepare for funeral services. Meanwhile, Nick Reiner remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. The legal proceedings are set to begin early next year, a process that Jake and Romy stated they would follow with a commitment to “truth and justice,” despite the agonizing personal toll of the case.
