Nicki Minaj made a surprise appearance at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest on Dec. 21, stepping onstage hand in hand with Erika Kirk for a closing conversation at the conservative group's annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

The rapper, 43, joined Kirk, who recently became CEO of Turning Point USA following the death of her husband and the organization's founder, Charlie Kirk. It marked Erika's first major appearance at the event since his killing earlier this year.

During the onstage discussion, Minaj spoke candidly about her evolving political views and explained why she has grown more vocal in her support for former President Donald Trump. "I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president," she said, adding that she believes Trump has "given so many people hope."

When asked what prompted her political shift, Minaj said she reached a point where she no longer felt compelled to soften her opinions. "I just got tired of being pushed around," she explained. "When you've had enough, you realize you don't need to explain yourself to anyone anymore."

The conversation turned toward advice for young men, where Minaj encouraged confidence and self-assurance. She referenced Trump as a "handsome" and "dashing" example of strength, also naming Vice President JD Vance as a figure she believes young people can look to.

Minaj also criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, continuing a public feud between the two that began after she objected to his comments regarding transgender youth. At the event, she made a pointed remark about Newsom while reiterating her belief that traditional gender roles should not be discouraged.

AmericaFest, which ran from Dec. 18 through Dec. 21 at the Phoenix Convention Center, was described by organizers as a celebration of faith, freedom and the legacy of Charlie Kirk. The conference included speeches, panels and tributes honoring his work and influence.

Erika Kirk has said her husband had previously expressed confidence that the organization would continue without him. She was unanimously elected CEO and chair of the board following his death, a decision the board described as fulfilling his wishes.

Minaj closed her appearance by emphasizing the importance of personal conviction. "It's okay to change your mind," she told the crowd. "What matters is standing up for what you believe in."
