Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that becoming a mother dramatically altered her relationship with dogs, following an incident in which her young son was bitten.

Speaking during a post-screening discussion for her latest film, Die My Love, in New York, the Oscar-winning actress explained that her sense of safety shifted after welcoming children. Lawrence shares two sons — Cy, 3, and a second baby born in 2024 — with her husband, art dealer Cooke Maroney.

While answering questions from the audience, Lawrence said that dogs no longer register the same way to her since having kids. "It's almost like I don't recognize dogs right now," she admitted. "I just see them as a threat."

The actress revealed that one frightening experience, in particular, changed everything. "One of them bit my son," she said, explaining that the incident triggered a deep protective instinct she hadn't anticipated before motherhood.

As a result, Lawrence decided to rehome her dog, Princess Pippi Longstocking — a chihuahua she adopted in 2017 — placing her with her parents instead. She emphasized that the dog is safe and well cared for, but acknowledged that her priorities had shifted.

Although dogs now make her uneasy, Lawrence said she has found unexpected joy in being a cat owner. She praised her cat, Fred, describing cats as widely misunderstood. "They are a—holes," she joked, adding that their unapologetic attitude is exactly what makes them funny.

Lawrence also reflected more broadly on how having children has reshaped her identity and emotional world. In previous interviews, she has described motherhood as overwhelming, transformative, and deeply grounding — affecting everything from her career decisions to how she processes fear.

Her comments come as she promotes Die My Love, a psychological drama directed by Lynne Ramsay, in which she stars opposite Robert Pattinson. The film explores themes of motherhood, identity loss, and emotional instability in the aftermath of childbirth — subjects Lawrence has said resonate differently now that she is a parent herself.
