Colombian singer and songwriter Yeison Jiménez has died in a plane crash in central Colombia, just hours before he was scheduled to perform at a concert in Medellín. He was 34.
The accident occurred Saturday afternoon shortly after a small private aircraft attempted to take off from an airstrip in Paipa, a town in the Boyacá department. According to local media reports, the plane lost control moments after departure and burst into flames upon impact.
Jiménez was traveling with five other people, including the pilot, co-pilot, members of his team and photographer Weisman Mora. Authorities confirmed that there were no survivors. Colombia's Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, which remains unknown.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Jiménez's family and team mourned the loss of the artist, describing him as more than a performer. "Today we do not just say goodbye to an artist," the statement read. "We say goodbye to a son, a brother, a friend, a human being full of courage and dreams, who turned his life story into hope for thousands."
The tragedy has taken on an even more haunting tone following the resurfacing of recent interviews in which Jiménez spoke about recurring dreams involving a fatal plane accident. In a conversation with a Colombian outlet last month, the singer said he had dreamt multiple times about urging a pilot to turn back due to mechanical trouble.
In another interview, Jiménez recalled experiencing an emergency landing weeks earlier, describing unusual engine noises and a failure to gain altitude. "I felt something wasn't right," he said at the time, noting that water appeared to be leaking from the engine during the flight.
Born in Colombia, Jiménez rose to prominence for blending regional Mexican ranchera influences with Colombian popular music. He released multiple albums, wrote more than 70 songs and sold out major venues, including Bogotá's Movistar Arena and El Campín Stadium in 2024.
Jiménez is survived by his wife, Sonia Restrepo, and three children. Fans and fellow artists have flooded social media with tributes, remembering him as a passionate performer whose music reflected perseverance, heartbreak and hope.
