Timothée Chalamet earned his first Golden Globe win on Sunday night, taking home best actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy for his performance in Marty Supreme at the 2026 ceremony in Beverly Hills.
The actor, who had previously been nominated four times without a win, reflected on how those earlier losses shaped the significance of the moment. Chalamet was first recognized for Call Me by Your Name, followed by nominations for Beautiful Boy, Wonka, and last year's Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.
"My dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up, always be grateful for what you have," Chalamet said during his acceptance speech. "It allowed me to leave ceremonies in the past empty-handed with my head held high. But I'd be lying if I said those moments didn't make this one that much sweeter."
Directed by Josh Safdie, Marty Supreme follows a fast-talking ping-pong hustler chasing unlikely greatness. Chalamet thanked Safdie and co-writer Ronald Bronstein, as well as his eclectic cast, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, Tyler Okonma, Fran Drescher, and Kevin O'Leary.
"If you would have told me at 19 that I'd be thanking Mr. Wonderful from Shark Tank," Chalamet joked, prompting laughter from O'Leary and the audience. "You're laughing, so I got away with that."
Beyond the performance, Chalamet has been a standout force behind the film's marketing campaign. His unconventional press run included gifting friends vintage-style windbreakers, flying a Nickelodeon-orange blimp across cities, and even scaling the Las Vegas Sphere. The strategy paid off, with Marty Supreme earning more than $84 million worldwide to date.
Chalamet beat out a competitive field that included George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Lee Byung-Hun, and Jesse Plemons. Calling the category "stacked," he acknowledged his fellow nominees while accepting the award.
He closed his speech with a personal note, thanking his parents and longtime partner Kylie Jenner. "To my parents and my partner, I love you," he said. "Thank you so much."
