Brooklyn Beckham has publicly addressed his long-running family rift, accusing his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, of controlling his life, damaging his marriage, and repeatedly misrepresenting him in the media. The 26-year-old made the claims in a lengthy Instagram Story statement shared on Monday, saying he felt left with "no choice" but to speak out.

In the statement, Brooklyn said he did not wish to repair the relationship with his parents. "I do not want to reconcile with my family," he wrote. "I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life." He added that, throughout his upbringing, his parents had shaped public narratives about the family, describing "performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships" as a constant feature of his life.

Brooklyn alleged that David and Victoria had continued to brief the press about him and his wife, Nicola Peltz, prompting him to address what he called "some of the lies that have been printed." He claimed his parents had "been trying endlessly to ruin [his] relationship" with Peltz since before their wedding in April 2022, adding, "It hasn't stopped."

Among the most serious allegations were claims surrounding the wedding itself. Brooklyn said his mother cancelled plans to design Nicola's wedding dress "in the eleventh hour," forcing her to urgently find an alternative. He also alleged that his parents "repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe" him into signing away the rights to his name ahead of the ceremony, saying his refusal permanently damaged their relationship.

He further claimed that Victoria intervened during the wedding reception in what he described as a humiliating incident involving the couple's first dance. "In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me," he wrote. "She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everybody. I've never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life."

Brooklyn said the couple renewed their vows in August 2025 to "create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment." He also accused his parents of prioritising public image over family relationships, writing

that "brand Beckham comes first" and that family support was measured by appearances and social media posts.

Rejecting claims that his wife controls him, Brooklyn described that narrative as "completely backwards." He said he had lived with "overwhelming anxiety" for much of his life and claimed that stepping away from his family had brought relief. "For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared," he wrote.

He concluded by stating that he and his wife wanted "peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family." Representatives for David and Victoria Beckham did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
