Court filings unsealed this month have revealed a series of private text messages exchanged between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift that are now part of an ongoing legal dispute involving actor and director Justin Baldoni and the film It Ends With Us.
The messages were included in documents filed as part of Lively's lawsuit against Baldoni, her co-star and the film's director, whom she has accused of sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni has denied the allegations, and his countersuit seeking $400 million was dismissed last year after he failed to file an amended complaint within a court-ordered deadline.
According to the filings, Lively referred to Baldoni in texts to Swift as her "doofus director" and a "clown" while discussing revisions she had made to the film's script. The exchanges reportedly occurred while Baldoni was present at Lively's apartment for a meeting related to the production. In her July deposition, Lively said she sent Swift the revised script because the singer was on her way to the apartment at the time.
Swift responded supportively in one exchange, writing, "I'll do anything for you !!" Court documents state that after a meeting in which Swift endorsed the revised script, Lively sent a follow-up message praising her friend's support. "You were so epically heroic today," Lively wrote, later adding, "You are the worlds absolute greatest friend ever."
The filings also include a December 2024 text in which Swift commented on Baldoni's behavior ahead of a New York Times article that later alleged a retaliatory smear campaign against Lively. "I think this bitch knows something is coming because he's gotten out his tiny violin," Swift wrote, according to the unsealed documents.
Lively's legal team confirmed the quoted language but disputed claims that the message was connected to advance knowledge of the article. In her deposition, Lively also stated that she told Swift she did not have to review the script, saying she did not want her friend to feel pressured.
Additional court documents reference discussions between Swift and Lively about the use of Swift's song "My Tears Ricochet" in the film's trailer. Swift allegedly commented that Baldoni was not being "strategic" by including her music, writing that it gave Lively more leverage over the project.
Baldoni's lawyers have also pointed to messages in which Lively referred to Swift and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, as her protective "dragons," arguing that Baldoni felt pressured by their influence. "The message could not have been clearer," Baldoni's attorney wrote, stating that he was facing "two of the most influential and wealthy celebrities in the world."
Swift's representatives have repeatedly denied her involvement in the film beyond licensing a song for the soundtrack. "Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie," her spokesperson said, adding that she had no role in casting, creative decisions, or post-production.
Representatives for Lively, Swift, Baldoni, and Wayfarer Studios declined to comment or did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
