Timothée Chalamet has made Oscar history after earning his third acting nomination, becoming the youngest man ever to reach the milestone.

The 30-year-old actor was recognized for his performance as table tennis prodigy Marty Mauser in Josh Safdie's sports dramedy Marty Supreme. The nomination places him ahead of generations of Hollywood stars who reached the mark later in their careers.

Chalamet's earlier nominations came for Call Me by Your Name in 2017 and A Complete Unknown last year, both in the best actor category. His first nod made him one of the youngest contenders ever at just 22, cementing his status as a breakout talent almost overnight.

This year's best actor race sees him competing against Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Michael B. Jordan for Sinners and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent. Marty Supreme also features strongly across the ballot, earning nominations for best picture and best original screenplay.

In addition to his acting recognition, Chalamet is nominated as a producer on Marty Supreme, marking another record breaking achievement. At 30 years and 26 days old, he is the youngest person ever nominated in the same year for both producing and acting, surpassing a record held by Warren Beatty since 1967.

The actor's awards momentum has been building steadily throughout the season. Earlier this month, he won the Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy or musical for Marty Supreme, becoming the youngest recipient in that category's history. He also claimed last year's top acting prize at the Actors Awards for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

Should Chalamet go on to win the Oscar in March, he would become the second youngest best actor winner of all time, behind Adrien Brody. Even without a win, the nomination further underlines his rare longevity at the top level of the industry.

Final voting for the 98th Academy Awards runs from late February to early March, with the ceremony set to take place in Hollywood on 15 March, hosted by Conan O'Brien. Expectations remain high as audiences and critics watch closely on the night ahead.
