Lexi Jones is speaking openly about a difficult time in her life.

David Bowie and Iman's daughter shared a 20-minute video detailing various aspects of her adolescence, including her struggle with drugs and alcohol following her late father's cancer diagnosis.

"It was my first year of high school, and everyone around me was experimenting, but for me, it wasn't about having fun," she wrote on Instagram on February 18. "I was not experimenting. I was fleeing—from my complicated mind, family, and school. When everyone else's party ended, I continued on my own, drinking and getting high."

As the 25-year-old's substance use grew, her mental health deteriorated, transforming her into "someone who lashed out." She claimed that she was eventually removed from her family's home and sent to a wilderness therapy program, where she lived outside and learned various survival skills.

"I was born and raised in the city," Jones explained. "I had gone camping before, but not like this. This wasn't camping. It felt like boot camp's strange cousin."

After a 91-day stay, Jones stated that she spent 13 months at a residential treatment center in Utah, where she continued to receive therapy while also learning about art. In fact, the musician stated that the boarding school was where she learned of her father's death in January 2016, noting she had been in contact with him prior to his passing.

"I had the luxury of speaking to him two days before, on his birthday," she remembered. "I told him I loved him, and he responded. "And we both knew."

Despite the highs and lows of her life, Jones emphasized how her upbringing shaped her for the better.

"I don't think I'd be this emotionally tuned if I hadn't been forced to look so closely at myself so early," she ended by stating: "I wish it had happened under better

circumstances, but I can't pretend it didn't shape me into someone who sees people deeply, who feels things deeply, who creates from that place."
