Zara Larsson is making it clear that there are certain artists she chooses not to support with her streams.
In a recent appearance on Cosmopolitan's Cheap Shots series, which aired Tuesday, Feb. 24, the "Lush Life" singer spoke candidly about her music preferences. When asked to name an artist who would never appear on one of her playlists, Larsson did not hesitate. She revealed that she has blocked several artists on Spotify, explaining that they are people she considers abusers.
"You certainly wouldn't find a Chris Brown song," she said directly.
Chris Brown has faced multiple legal issues over the years. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to a felony after physically assaulting then girlfriend Rihanna. In 2014, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault related to a 2013 altercation in Washington, D.C. In addition, his former girlfriend Karrueche Tran was granted a five year restraining order against him in 2017 after a turbulent relationship.
Larsson has voiced her criticism of Brown before. In a 2016 interview styled like a Tinder inspired game, she rejected his song "Hotel," a collaboration with Kid Ink. At the time, she acknowledged that while she believed he was talented as a singer and dancer, she did not view him as a good person.
Beyond discussing which artists she avoids, Larsson also shared broader thoughts about music taste. During the same Cheap Shots interview, she said that limiting yourself to just one genre of music is not something she admires. She suggested that being open to different styles reflects a more curious and engaged listener.
The interview comes as Larsson prepares for the United States leg of her Midnight Sun Tour, which begins Feb. 28 in Portland and runs through April 12 in Houston. She is currently enjoying significant chart success, with three songs appearing on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Those tracks include "Lush Life," "Stateside" with PinkPantheress, and "Midnight Sun."
As she continues to promote her music and tour internationally, Larsson remains outspoken about her values. Her decision to block certain artists reflects her stance on accountability and personal choice in music consumption, even as she acknowledges the talent some controversial figures may possess.
