Carrie Underwood is making it clear that audience backlash will not shake her confidence.

The country star and American Idol judge found herself repeatedly booed during the show's "Hollywood Week: Music City Takeover" episodes, but she responded with defiance both onstage and online. After offering pointed feedback to contestants during the March 2 broadcast, the 42-year-old addressed critics directly on X, writing, "Boo me. I don't care. @americanidol."

The tense moment gained attention after contestant Mor performed an original song. While fellow judge Luke Bryan initially praised the performance, Underwood appeared more cautious, and she anticipated the crowd's reaction before even delivering her critique.

"You guys are gonna boo me. You're gonna boo me," she told the audience. "It's coming. Bring it on. I love it! Your boos are feeding me."

Despite the pushback, Underwood stood by her professional judgment. She argued that performing original material at that stage of the competition carried risks, explaining, "In a room like this, for you to bring an original song with that incredible band sitting behind you, twiddling their thumbs, I feel like it was a missed opportunity."
The boos continued throughout the episode, prompting support from Bryan, who reminded the audience of her credentials. "She only won this. She knows," he said, referencing Underwood's season 4 victory.

Underwood also pushed back at the crowd's involvement in the judging process, telling them bluntly, "You're not included in the discussions."

Even with the tension, the Grammy winner kept a playful tone at times. Turning to Bryan, she joked, "Why don't they boo you?"  to which he replied, "I don't know, I'm trying to get booed."

Online, Underwood doubled down on her stance. "Singing original music is SUCH a gamble at this stage in the competition. Don't. Waste. The. Band," she wrote, adding, "Mor's voice and previous audition kept him in. I wanna hear his original music after he's a big star!"

The singer had previously warned viewers about the frosty audience reception, tweeting weeks earlier, "Spoiler alert...I get booed A LOT from our Hollywood Week audience @AmericanIdol."

Underwood, who joined the judging panel alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie after replacing Katy Perry, has consistently emphasized that her feedback is intended to help contestants grow. In a previous radio interview, she acknowledged that some viewers view her as too critical, but explained that her goal is to push performers to improve rather than simply praise them.

She said, "We just want everybody to be able to grow and get better and be the most awesome version of themselves that they could be."
While some viewers online have continued to criticize the star, others have rallied behind her.
