Nicole Kidman comes here for magic, not money.
The Oscar winner reflected on the creation of her now-iconic AMC Theaters campaign, which appeared in September 2021, and admitted she was motivated by a genuine desire to increase movie attendance following the COVID-19 outbreak rather than a large paycheck.
"[I] called in all these favors," she revealed during her interview on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show on March 2. "We did it for nothing, and then it went off."
Indeed, Nicole, 58, assembled a creative team that included cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth and scriptwriter Billy Ray to bring the extensively marketed pre-roll part to life.
"I said, "Should we do this? "We need to help the theaters," she recalled from her chat with Billy. "We accomplished that while COVID was still active. I asked the staff on Being the Ricardos, 'Would you guys be willing to do this?' "
"I had no idea that thing was gonna work," she told me. "We did it out of the purest of intentions."
The Big Little Lies star's efforts have clearly paid off, as the ad continues to captivate moviegoers—so much so that she has previously discussed the potential of doing another marketing video.
Nicole, who has children Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, with ex Keith Urban, as well as Bella, 33, and Connor, 31, with ex Tom Cruise, revealed that plans were already in motion to produce another commercial.
“We're in the making,” she continued. “I'm using a Practical Magic term: There's things brewing.”
