Pop star Britney Spears was arrested late Wednesday night in Ventura County, California, on suspicion of driving under the influence.
According to law enforcement sources, the singer was stopped and taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol at around 9:30 p.m. She was later booked by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department shortly after 3 a.m. Jail records show that Spears was released from custody a few hours later, at approximately 6 a.m. Authorities say she is expected to appear in court on May 4.
The arrest comes shortly after Spears secured a legal victory involving a man accused of harassing her for years. A judge recently granted the singer a permanent restraining order against a 51-year-old Louisiana man who allegedly showed up at her Los Angeles home after posting a series of disturbing messages about her on social media. Court documents indicate that the man had been targeting Spears online since 2013 and was previously arrested for trespassing at her residence in 2025.
Spears has had past legal troubles related to driving. In 2007, she faced several misdemeanor charges following a hit-and-run incident involving a parked car in Los Angeles. The charges connected to the collision were later dropped after she compensated the vehicle's owner for damages, and she was eventually acquitted by a jury of the remaining charge of driving without a valid California license.
That turbulent period also coincided with personal challenges in Spears' life, including the loss of custody of her two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline after a series of widely publicized incidents involving concerns about her well-being.
Representatives for Spears have not yet publicly commented on the latest arrest.
