Jennifer Lopez offered a candid and humorous take on relationships while performing during her Las Vegas residency, sharing what she believes women truly want from their partners.
The singer addressed the audience during her March 7 show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, pausing between songs to speak directly to the crowd, and especially the men in attendance. In a video from the performance that circulated on Instagram, Lopez said the most important thing she looks for in a partner is not wealth or material gifts.
"I been saying it for years, haven't I been saying it for years? It's not about the money, I don't want your stuff," Lopez told the audience. "People look at me, and they see me with my sparkly mic, and they think that I'm expensive. And I am expensive. But I got my own money, I don't need you to buy me nothing."
Instead, Lopez said what women really need from men is something much simpler. "I'm gonna tell you a little secret," she continued. "Women don't need much. First of all, we need very little. All we need from you is a little bit of sugar."
She went on to explain that by "sugar," she meant kindness and sweetness in everyday interactions. According to Lopez, even small gestures can make a significant difference
in a relationship. "You give us a little bit of sugar, a little bit of sweetness, kindness and we will give you so much in return," she told the crowd.
To illustrate her point, Lopez shared a comparison about how women often "multiply" the effort they receive from their partners. "We multiply whatever you give us," she said. "You give us a bag of groceries, we cook you a five-course meal. You give us a house, we give you a home. You give us a little something, something we give you a baby, maybe."
However, the singer added a playful warning that the same principle can apply if relationships are filled with negativity. "But if you give us any grief," Lopez joked, "we'll give you a thousand f--king headaches and you know it's true."
The comments drew laughter from the crowd as Lopez continued her performance, which is part of her Up All Night residency series in Las Vegas.
