The Princess of Wales has spoken candidly about a lifestyle change she made following her cancer diagnosis, revealing that she now drinks far less alcohol as she continues her recovery.
Kate shared the detail during a visit to Southwark Brewing Company in London on March 12. The visit formed part of a series of engagements she and Prince William carried out along the River Thames, including stops at the Bermondsey Beer Mile and Borough Market.
While helping pour pints at the brewery, the princess explained that her health experience had influenced her habits. "Since my diagnosis, I haven't had much alcohol. It's something I have to be a lot more conscious of now," she said while speaking with brewery owner Hannah Rhodes.
Instead of sampling the drinks, the 44-year-old opted for a soft drink. She then joked about her husband's preference, turning toward him and adding, "But you like cider." Prince William confirmed the remark, telling onlookers: "I'm a cider man, I like cider. I grew up on cider in the West Country."
During the outing, the royal couple also took part in several brewery activities, including stirring ingredients in the brewhouse kettles and pulling pints behind the bar. William even joined staff in adding hops to a brewing kettle before commenting on the strong scent, saying, "It smells like horse feed as you're doing it. There's a real mixture of smells."
The visit came more than a year after the princess first publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis. In March 2024, she announced in a video message that cancer had been detected following abdominal surgery earlier that year. She subsequently stepped back from royal duties while undergoing treatment.
Kate later confirmed in September 2024 that she had completed chemotherapy. In January 2025, she shared with "relief" that she was in remission after making an unannounced visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she had received treatment.
Since resuming a more regular schedule of public engagements, the Princess of Wales has occasionally spoken about the difficulties that come after cancer treatment. During a hospital visit in July 2025, she reflected on the emotional and physical adjustments many people face once treatment ends. She explained that while patients often remain strong and resilient throughout therapy, the period that follows can be particularly challenging as they try to return to everyday life.
She also noted that recovery is rarely straightforward and that finding a new normal can take time. According to the princess, the process often comes with ups and downs rather than the smooth return to routine that many might expect.
