Jane Fallon has an update on her health. The best-selling author and longtime companion of comedian Ricky Gervais said that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, though the disease was detected at a "very early stage, thankfully," and "the prognosis is excellent."
"I had a routine mammogram a week before Christmas," Jane posted on Instagram March 12. "I had no symptoms, but the brilliant radiographer spotted something iffy & sent me for further tests & eventually a biopsy."
According to the 65-year-old, she has now undergone "more mammograms, more biopsies, and an MRI so they can pinpoint the problem area precisely."
"It's been a lot; I'm not going to lie," the television reporter stated. "But my surgery is scheduled for the week after next, and I just want to get it over with now."
Jane told fans that she was receiving "incredible care" and that "all will be fine." However, she admitted that she was not interested in "engaging with much beyond audiobooks & jigsaws."
Giving a tribute to her beloved cat Pickle, she said, "Nurse Pickle is wondering when lunch is."
While Ricky has not talked publicly about Jane's illness, the couple, who have been together since 1982 after meeting at University College London, has been open about their relationship throughout the years, including why they have decided not to marry after more than four decades.
"Don't see the point," Ricky told The Times in 2010. "We are married for all intents and purposes."
He went on: "Everything's shared, and actually our fake marriage has lasted longer than a real one."
And, as Jane explained, neither she nor Ricky was particularly "fussed" about walking down the aisle.
"I think if one of us really cared, then we would probably do it," she told the Daily Mail in 2018, "but it's not really been anything that either of us has ever really needed."
