Martial arts legend and Hollywood action star Chuck Norris has died at the age of 86. His family confirmed that he passed away on March 19, 2026, following a sudden medical emergency at his home in Hawaii. Norris, born Carlos Ray Norris, was globally recognized for his film and television career, as well as his status as a long-standing internet icon.
Born in 1940, Norris’s journey began in the U.S. Air Force, where he discovered martial arts while stationed in South Korea. He returned to the States to become a dominant force in competitive karate, eventually retiring as an undefeated World Professional Middleweight Champion. His discipline led him to create his own martial arts style, Chun Kuk Do, and he later became the first Westerner to be awarded an eighth-degree black belt in Taekwondo.
Norris’s transition to Hollywood was legendary. He famously faced off against Bruce Lee in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon, a scene still considered one of the greatest fight sequences in cinema history. He went on to headline massive 1980s action hits like Missing in Action and The Delta Force, before cementing his television legacy as the titular lawman in Walker, Texas Ranger.
In 2005, Norris experienced a late-career surge in popularity through "Chuck Norris Facts." These satirical, hyperbolic memes portrayed him as a superhuman figure, claiming he could "count to infinity... twice." Norris famously embraced the jokes with his trademark humility and dry wit.
“Chuck was a symbol of strength and integrity," his family’s statement read. "To the world, he was a hero; to us, he was a devoted husband and father whose kindness far outweighed his legendary roundhouse kick."
