Country music icon Dolly Parton is once again being recognised for her generosity after making a major contribution to the newly renamed Dolly Parton Children's Hospital in East Tennessee.

The hospital's president and CEO, Matt Schaefer, described the moment he received the donation as a "surreal moment," praising the singer's "incredibly disarming personality." Reflecting on their meeting, he said, "It was truly humbling, and to hear her, in her own words, talk about the importance of this to her, to her community, to this organization, and to children, was super affirming."

While the exact amount of the donation has not been disclosed, Schaefer emphasised its scale and impact. "What I can tell you is that she has made a generational and transformational commitment to Children's and its mission, and that commitment is something that goes beyond our wildest expectations, that is beyond generous, and will be a lifeline for this mission for now and for years to come," he said. He added that the hospital is both "excited about and humbled by her willingness to do so."

The contribution is expected to support major developments at the hospital, including expanding its roster of doctors, investing in new programs and technology, and strengthening fundraising efforts. According to Schaefer, Parton's influence extends beyond financial support.

"I think anytime you have someone of her stature... and to have the halo effect of everything she stood for in her life, including her love for children in particular, it just is fantastic for the future of our mission," he said.

The renaming of the hospital was first announced in February through a video message shared by Parton. In the announcement, she highlighted her long-standing commitment to children's wellbeing, saying, "I've always believed that every child deserves a fair chance to grow up healthy, hopeful and surrounded with love."

She highlighted the hospital's long-standing commitment to care, emphasizing that for almost 90 years, its teams have delivered compassionate and skilled services, treating children as valuable individuals, each with their own story and future.

Parton also called on the public to get involved, emphasizing a shared commitment to combining world-class care with compassion for children across East Tennessee and beyond, and encouraging everyone to support the hospital's mission.
