Aubrey Plaza has shared her first thoughts on pregnancy after news broke that she is expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott.

The 41-year-old actress opened up during an upcoming episode of the SmartLess podcast, where she confirmed the news in her usual candid style. "Well, there's a baby inside of me," she said, adding, "No, I said there is a baby inside of me right now."

Plaza went on to describe a recent doctor's visit, revealing that both she and her dog had appointments on the same day. "Today was a big day. I went to the doctor's today, and my dog also went to the doctor's," she said. "And both of us, my dog's getting a scan right now. I got a scan earlier. I'm not kidding."

"She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach... And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there," she continued.

The actress, who recently debuted her baby bump while out in New York City, also shared her thoughts on becoming a mother for the first time. "I am. Yeah. I've always wanted, I've always wanted, I've always wanted to see what that's all about, you know?" she said. "It just seems so interesting, that whole thing."

Her pregnancy comes after a difficult period in her personal life. Plaza's estranged husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, died in January 2025. In the months that followed, she spoke openly about navigating grief.

Reflecting on that experience, she described her grief as something constantly present, comparing it to an overwhelming force that never fully disappears, sometimes drawing her in while at other times remaining in the background but always there.

Despite the challenges, Plaza's pregnancy has been described as a positive moment. A source close to the couple said, "It was a beautiful surprise," adding that they feel "very blessed."

The couple, who have worked together on projects including Black Bear and a stage production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, have largely kept their relationship private. The baby is reportedly expected later this year.
