Tom Holland is opening up about how giving up alcohol has reshaped his life.
The actor, who quit drinking in January 2022, admitted that alcohol had started affecting his career. "Drinking was something that was ultimately really getting in the way of my professional life," he told USA Today.
He explained that the pressures of being in the public eye only made things worse. "Being an actor and living your life on the big stage can be really stressful... and alcohol, for me personally, really compounded that issue."
Since quitting, he says the difference has been huge. "Since getting rid of the booze... I just feel so much more confident in myself as who I am as a person," he shared, adding that he now wakes up feeling "clear-headed" and ready for the day.
Looking back, he's not sure how things would've turned out if he hadn't stopped drinking. "I don't know how much of that would've come to fruition had I still been drinking," he said, referring to his recent career growth.
The change has also rubbed off on his social circle. "All of my friends have really slowed down drinking," he revealed, recalling a recent hangout where "I don't think anyone had a drop of alcohol."
He said the biggest shift is how present everyone feels now. "There was no waking up the next day feeling groggy... I just love what it's done for my life in general."
"Alcohol can be an amazing thing, but it can also be an incredibly dangerous thing," he said. "And I just love seeing that young people are turning away from booze and looking for alternatives. And it creates, I think, a safer environment, a more communal environment."
