Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s on-screen chemistry in their upcoming film “We Live in Time” led to an amusing and memorable moment on set. During a recent appearance at the 92nd Street Y, Garfield shared a humorous anecdote about filming a particularly intimate scene with Pugh, where the pair failed to hear the director yell "cut”.

Garfield described the scene as a “very intimate, passionate sex scene” that was filmed on a closed set, with only the essential crew present. The actors were so engrossed in their performance that they didn’t realize the scene had gone on longer than intended. “We choreographed it, and we get into it, as it were, and we go a little further than we were meant to just because we never heard ‘cut,’” Garfield recounted.

The director, John Crowley, was in a different room, which contributed to the miscommunication. As the scene progressed, Garfield and Pugh began to sense that something was off. “I feel like we were both kind of telepathically saying to each other, ‘this definitely feels like a longer take,’” Garfield said. It wasn’t until they looked over at the crew members, who had turned away out of politeness, that they realized their mistake.

Despite the awkwardness, Garfield emphasized that both he and Pugh felt safe and comfortable enough to continue the scene. “We were just kind of like, ‘OK, we’ll let this progress and we’ll just carry on,’” he added.

“We Live in Time” follows the story of Almut (Pugh), an up-and-coming chef, and Tobias (Garfield), a recent divorcée, who are brought together by a surprise encounter that changes their lives. The film explores their relationship over multiple decades, highlighting the challenges and joys they face together.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and is set for a limited theatrical release in the U.S. on October 11. With Garfield and Pugh’s undeniable chemistry and the intriguing storyline, “We Live in Time” promises to be a captivating watch.
