In the dark comedy-drama Nightbitch, Amy Adams takes on one of her most transformative roles yet. Playing a suburban mother who begins to physically and emotionally transform into something wild, Adams says the experience was freeing and unpredictable.
Based on Rachel Yoder's bestselling novel, Nightbitch explores themes of identity, motherhood, and the struggles that come with balancing personal ambition and family life. Adams' character, an artist who has put her career on hold to raise her son, gradually starts noticing strange changes in her body, from growing fur to developing sharp teeth and heightened senses.
For Adams, the role allowed her to embrace the physicality of her character. "It was just really connecting with something primal inside of me," the actress said at the film's London premiere, adding that she didn't focus on how she looked but instead on embodying the character's raw, animalistic instincts.
Directed by Marielle Heller, Nightbitch also posed challenges due to its work with children and animals. Adams said the spontaneity of working with twin toddlers brought unexpected joy to the production, making each day unpredictable but rewarding.
The film showcases a different side of Adams, who is known for her versatility and emotional depth, and is sure to resonate with audiences for its unique take on the complexities of modern motherhood.
