Sophie Turner is reportedly in talks to take on the iconic role of Lara Croft in Prime Video's upcoming Tomb Raider series. Known for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and as Jean Grey in the X-Men films, Turner is among the actresses who auditioned for the role, with sources suggesting she may be nearing an agreement to star as the renowned adventurer. This would place her in the legacy of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who previously brought Croft to life on the big screen.

The live-action series, based on the hit video game franchise first launched in 1996, is written and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the Emmy-winning creator of Fleabag. Waller-Bridge, a long-time fan of Tomb Raider, shared her enthusiasm: "If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she'd explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life, and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators." She described Croft as a character close to her heart and expressed excitement about reimagining the adventure for a new audience. "There's room to do something really quite dangerous," she added, hinting at an ambitious take on the franchise.

The new adaptation will capture "the adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft," according to Amazon MGM head Jennifer Salke, who praised Waller-Bridge's passion for the character. Salke called the series a "globe-trotting" and "epic" production, hoping to appeal to both fans and newcomers. The project is produced through Waller-Bridge's Wells Street Productions, alongside Legendary Television and Crystal Dynamics, the developers of the Tomb Raider games. Additional producers include Jenny Robins and Dmitri M. Johnson, with Amazon MGM Studios and consulting producers Amanda Greenblatt and Ryan Andolina involved as well.
