The creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong Hyuk, recently shared his thoughts on the unexpected Golden Globes 2025 nomination for Season 2. Despite the recognition, Hwang revealed he had no expectations of winning, citing the incomplete narrative of the series as a key reason.

"To be honest, I didn't have any expectations for awards regarding Season 2 when I decided to divide it into two parts—Seasons 2 and 3," Hwang explained. "Since the story isn't complete and the message I wanted to convey hasn't been fully revealed, I thought it would be difficult to win an award in this state."

The nomination for "Best Television Series – Drama" was surprising, especially since Season 2 had not premiered at the time. Judges were given early access to episodes, leading to its selection as one of six works in the category. Although the series did not win at the January 5 event, Hwang described the nomination as an honor. "I was shocked and surprised that it was nominated even before its release. Just being one of the six works selected feels like winning an award. I'm very satisfied with that," he said.

Reflecting on Season 1's success, Hwang recalled the challenges he faced during the height of the show's popularity, including the COVID-19 pandemic and a Golden Globes boycott over diversity concerns. "During Season 1, there were overlapping issues with COVID-19 and the Golden Globes boycott. I couldn't attend the ceremony, and only actor Oh Young Soo received an award," he noted. "This time, I'm happy and grateful to have the opportunity to attend."

Hwang remains optimistic about the future of the series, hinting that the complete story, which will unfold in Season 3, could receive greater recognition. "Personally, I don't have high expectations for winning an award, but if I were to aim for something, it might be with Season 3, when the story's conclusion is revealed."

Season 3 of Squid Game is currently in post-production and is expected to release in 2025. "I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year," Hwang shared, expressing his hope that the final season will deliver the full narrative and message he envisioned for the series.
