In December 2024, the sequel to the Spanish-language YA movie “Culpa Mía” (“My Fault”)-titled “Culpa Tuya” (“Your Fault”)-hit Prime Video. The film became the number one movie on Prime Video in more than 170 countries, including Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Canada. Significantly, 90% of its viewership came from outside Spain, testifying to its global appeal.

“Culpa Tuya” is based on the “Culpables” trilogy, written by Mercedes Ron, which started at the digital platform Wattpad and has already sold more than three million copies. This is the story of Noah and Nick, two young guys who start out with lots of hate in their hearts for each other but will later fall in love. The story tries to make new paths in romantic stereotypes by introducing a strong lady and a respectful gentleman in love, far from toxic relations.

The success of "Culpa Tuya” acts as proof that Prime Video’s strategy has paid off in commissioning and popularizing international YA content. James Farrell, VP of International Originals at Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios, noted that the YA productions offer an opportunity to attract new viewers since such content holds huge opportunities for engaging audiences that might not be using the service already.

Due to the great reception of the first two, expectations are high for the third one, “Culpa Nuestra” (“Our Fault”), which will see a release later this year. The series’ director, Domingo González, has advanced the suggestion that the last chapter is the best in the trilogy, which is raising appetites.

Prime Video will be committed to YA content: the third season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and an adaptation of E. Lockhart’s novel “We Were Liars,” as well as the UK-set adaptation “My Fault: London.” This strategy reflects the platform’s recognition of how the genre globally appeals and allows for a wider, more focused audience.

In short, “Culpa Tuya” has not only shattered viewership records but also solidified the growing dominance of international YA content in the streamers. The success underlines universal themes and relatable characters that resonate with audiences worldwide, making Prime Video one of the leading platforms to present diverse and compelling storytelling.
