The actress from Wicked, who was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie, responded to accusations that her voice is higher pitched now than it was in the past.

On the February 3 episode of the SmartLess podcast, Ariana stated, "The thing that perplexes people so much—and it's just so funny because if you're a person who uses their voice, you know about this." She added, "If I have a long day of press or if I have to sing, I'll place [my voice] a little higher."

"To kind of conserve," the 31-year-old continued, "I'll shift my voice positioning. However, it's just something that's good for the voice. It just means raising your voice a little bit.

The critics were also immediately addressed by Ariana, who started dating her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater in 2023, who described their criticism as "interesting."

She went on to add, "For vocalists, it's just a normal thing." People say, however, that her voice is not natural. I respond, "Well, it is, but it's just a little higher." Everything about it is natural.

Since Ari had already responded to the internet criticism over her voice in Wicked's Glinda the Good Witch last year, she understood that the comments might not stop.

It's hilarious because I've discussed it a lot of times," she explained, “and people are still like, ‘Where's your real voice?’ And I'm like, ‘Well, they all are.’”

However, in spite of the online fan analysis, the singer of "Positions" is thankful for the aspects of Glinda (née Galinda) that she will be able to carry with her in the future, such as her voice.

Regarding her crisper articulation and higher register, she told Variety in January that "I think that might stay." "I had a lot of vocal work to do for Galinda. Maybe some things won't melt away. Some will, but I am truly appreciative of the pieces that will last forever.

"What a lovely thing to be left with, and to feel the ghost of every day," she continued.
