With just a week to go before the Academy Awards, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards have thrown the race into chaos. The Vatican drama Conclave scored the night's biggest prize, Best Ensemble Cast, solidifying its position as a major contender for Best Picture at the Oscars.

British actor Ralph Fiennes, who accepted the award, praised director Edward Berger for his vision. Meanwhile, co-star Isabella Rossellini took a moment to send well wishes to Pope Francis, who was recently diagnosed with pneumonia.

This year's Best Picture race is one of the most unpredictable in recent memory. Different films have dominated different award shows: The Brutalist and Emilia Pérez won at the Golden Globes, Conclave triumphed at the Baftas and SAG Awards, and Anora has won across multiple industry guilds. This uncertainty has left Oscar predictions wide open, with no clear frontrunner.

The acting categories also saw shakeups. Demi Moore took Best Actress for The Substance, putting her neck and neck with Mikey Madison, who won at the Baftas. "This is extraordinary," Moore said, recalling how her first SAG card at 15 gave her "meaning and purpose."

Meanwhile, Timothée Chalamet surprised many by winning Best Actor for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. He dedicated the award to the legendary musician, saying, "I poured everything I have into playing Bob Dylan. This was the honor of a lifetime."

Other highlights included Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain) winning Best Supporting Actor, Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) continuing her winning streak for Best Supporting Actress, and Colin Farrell, who jokingly blamed Brendan Gleeson for giving him COVID at the Golden Globes, winning Best Actor in a Limited Series for The Penguin.

With the Oscars just days away, the SAG results have made one thing clear: it's anyone's game.
