At a historic ceremony held on February 21, 2025, iconic filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo were honored with a handprint and footprint ceremony at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The tribute cements their status among Hollywood elite, marking a career that has generated over $7 billion in global box office earnings, making them the third highest-grossing directors in movie history.
The ceremony was full of industry bigwigs and close friends. A few of the notable attendees included Chris Pratt, the star of the Russos’ upcoming film “The Electric State,” Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. AGBO colleagues such as screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and producer Angela Russo-Otstot, were also present at the ceremony.
Reflecting on their collaboration, Joe Russo stated, “The very nature of my brother’s and my relationship is collaboration. And we know that this moment is as much your moment as it is our moment.” This quote illustrates the brothers’ commitment to collaborative storytelling and the collaborations that have been critical to their success.
The accolades come just weeks before the premiere of their latest directorial effort, “The Electric State,” set to premiere on Netflix on March 14, 2025. Based on the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, the film is set in a retro-futuristic America and stars Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown) embarking on a cross-country road trip with a peculiar robot, voiced by Anthony Mackie, to find her missing brother. Chris Pratt portrays Keats, a drifter who becomes a friend to Michelle on her quest. The cast also features Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, and Stanley Tucci. The Russos’ collaboration with Netflix on “The Electric State” is an extension of their run of making high-profile movies for the streamer, following successes like “The Gray Man” and “Extraction.” The brothers’ independent production company, AGBO, has been behind bringing many daring stories to life on screen, with a focus on innovative storytelling and global appeal.
Other than “The Electric State,” the Russo brothers will further expand their television credits with the second season of the spy thriller series “Citadel,” which will premiere this fall. They are also set to begin production in April on two more Avengers sequels for Marvel and Disney, extending their mighty imprint on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The handprint and footprint ceremony at TCL Chinese Theatre is not only a celebration of the Russos’ monumental success, but it also signals the start of a promising new chapter in their filmmaking journey, as “The Electric State” will captivate viewers worldwide when it comes out.
