After the massive success of Season 1, The Day of the Jackal is officially returning for a second season—and the hype is real. Sky and Peacock have collaborated to put a super cool new spin on 1971 classic spy thriller, written by Frederick Forsyth. They have now made some of Sky Originals most watched premieres – 3 million people tuned in just in those first weeeks, says Deadline.

Following the confirmation of Season 2 in November 2024, fans have been eager to know what’s next. Although no official release date has been confirmed, industry estimates suggest a likely premiere in early 2026. Season 1 took nearly 19 months from shoot to screen, with seven months of filming and a lengthy post-production cycle, as reported by Cosmopolitan. If the same production schedule is followed, fans should expect the next chapter to arrive in the first half of 2026.

Jackal’s personal journey to reconnect with his family, and his vendetta against Winthorp and the shadowy forces that betrayed him. There are two huge strings to tie up at the end of Season One,” Neame said, “Nuria and the turncoat business. Season 2 will run on both tracks.”

Eddie Redmayne is back as the cold-blooded assassin with emotional complexity. Úrsula Corberó is expected to return as Nuria. Charles Dance is returning to play the cunning Winthorp role. However, Lashana Lynch’s MI6 agent Bianca Pullman and Nick Blood’s Vincent Pyne won’t be returning—both characters were killed off in the first season. Other supporting cast members likely returning include Florisa Kamara and Sule Rimi as Jasmine and Paul Pullman, adding depth to the political intrigue.

Just like cozies like Jack Reacher or classics crossed paths like Ryan or Ryan on the job, The Day of the Jackal proves audiences absolutely don’t lose their lust for tightly knitted spy thrillers. This isn’t just a remake  it’s a reinvention that both taps into that dark sense of paranoia and tension from old tales of the Cold War and weaves into today’s really big political stuff too. With a strong cast, layered storytelling, and a larger narrative universe now unfolding, Season 2 has a lot riding on it—and fans can’t wait.
