The 2025 summer season of movies is heating up with big stars, raunchy franchises, and some surprises that might just sweep the box office. Leading the pack is Brad Pitt headlining the over-the-top, high-octane F1 racing film F1, which has been picking up speed ever since production began coinciding with real Formula One Grand Prix weekends. Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a seasoned F1 driver lured back into the sport to mentor a young legend played by Damson Idris.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski of Top Gun: Maverick fame and backed by producer Jerry Bruckheimer and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, the movie combines cinematic spectacle with real-to-life racing authenticity. Pitt and Idris were spotted filming in race attire on actual tracks like Silverstone and Monza, blending fiction with actual F1 action. The film is slated for international release on June 25, 2025, and hits North American theaters two days later. With Kosinski’s aerial-style camera work and Pitt’s star power, F1 could be the next great sports drama to speed into pop culture.
At the same time, Adam Sandler is picking up his hockey stick and golf clubs again for Happy Gilmore 2. After years of speculation and fan demand, the cult comedy follow-up is now happening at Netflix. Sandler broke the news on a comedy night, and the internet went into a frenzy. Christopher McDonald, who played bad boy Shooter McGavin in the original, also teased that he was involved. Since plot details are kept under wraps, the sequel guarantees to take Happy on a new journey of life, maybe with a new young golfer or returning for one final attempt at success. Sandler’s recent dramatic performances have left everyone speechless about his skill, but Happy Gilmore 2 is about returning to the goofy, crude, enormusly entertaining beginnings which made him the face of the 90s. Expect plenty of nostalgia, iconic one-liners, and a mangled golf club or two.
Then there is Superman, James Gunn’s throwback reboot of the Man of Steel. After a series of uneven DC films, Gunn is trying to reboot the series with David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Doomed for a release on July 11, 2025, the movie vows a brighter outlook and new beginnings for the DC Universe. The new Superman will employ his alien powers coupled with human compassion, and he will not be alone—characters like Hawkgirl and Metamorpho will make appearances as part of it, which would translate to an expanded interconnected world in the future. With Gunn writing and directing, the fans are praying that this version will finally deliver them the grounded, heroic Superman they’ve been longing for.
Through the roar of engines, the swoosh of golf swings, and the red cape streaming across the horizon, summer 2025 is shaping up to be a season made for the big screen. Hollywood has unleashed its A-listers—and for the first time in years, the blockbuster schedule feels like an event.
