Josh Holloway is officially back with J.J. Abrams, and Lost fans couldn’t be more thrilled. Holloway, who notoriously played Sawyer on the iconic ABC series, is re-teaming with Abrams for a new crime show titled Duster, which debuts on Max on May 15, 2025.

Created by Abrams and LaToya Morgan (Into the Badlands, The Walking Dead), Duster is set in the American Southwest in 1972. Holloway stars as Jim, a getaway driver for a rising crime syndicate. Jim’s life is irrevocably altered when he encounters Nina, played by Rachel Hilson (Love, Victor, The Good Wife), a determined FBI agent who recruits him to help her in a daring effort to bring down the syndicate from the inside.

In a recent interview, Holloway couldn’t help but gush about once again working with Abrams. “My answer is always yes to J.J.,” he stated, recalling the great trust and artistic chemistry the two had when they worked together on Lost. That established relationship is meant to provide Duster with a good character-driven grounding — something both are accustomed to bringing to the table.

Supporting cast for Holloway and Hilson features Keith David (Greenleaf, The Thing) as crime lord Ezra, and Sydney Elisabeth, Greg Grunberg (another familiar Abrams collaborator), Camille Guaty, Asivak Koostachin, Adriana Aluna Martinez, and Benjamin Charles Watson. The premiere and second episodes were written by Abrams and Morgan and directed by Steph Green (Watchmen, The Americans), an executive producer on the show as well.

Duster brings a mix of action, suspense, and gritty storytelling that captures the raw and unfettered feel of the early 1970s. The show goes all in on the look of the era, from its iconic muscle cars to its grimy desert landscapes and tacky roadside motels, offering viewers a cinematic world deeply rooted in American noir tradition.

The series will air weekly after the first premiere, with each episode being launched every Thursday until July 3, 2025, the final episode of the season.

For Holloway, Duster is not just a reunion with a respected partner but also an opportunity to sink into a richly textured, morally complicated role. For viewers, it’s a chance to experience the magic of the Lost pair rekindled — this time against the backdrop of crime, desperation, and the American dream gone horribly wrong.

With the legacy behind it and the initial buzz generated by its trailer, Duster could be one of Max’s 2025 breakout hits.
