Dakota Johnson and Ro Donnelly’s production banner, TeaTime Pictures, has signed a first-look television deal with Sony Pictures Television, solidifying a new chapter in the company’s growing influence in scripted storytelling. Under the agreement, TeaTime will develop and produce scripted television projects for both streaming and cable platforms in partnership with Sony’s prestigious indie TV studio.
The deal marks a reunion between Johnson and Sony Pictures Television Studios President Katherine Pope. Pope previously served as President of TV at Chernin Entertainment, where she executive produced Ben & Kate, the 2012 Fox comedy that featured Johnson in her first television starring role as Kate.
“Having worked with Dakota previously, I’ve witnessed firsthand her passion and integrity as a storyteller,” Pope said. “Dakota and Ro bring a unique and intuitive understanding of what makes characters and narratives genuinely compelling. Their work reflects a commitment to authentic, nuanced storytelling that perfectly aligns with our vision. We’re thrilled to support their creative ambitions and help amplify their distinctive voice for television audiences.”
Since founding TeaTime Pictures in 2019, Johnson and Donnelly have positioned the company as a force in the independent production space. Prior to the Sony deal, TeaTime operated under a television agreement with Boat Rocker, where they developed the critically acclaimed Roku comedy series Slip. Created, directed by, and starring Zoe Lister-Jones, Slip earned two Independent Spirit Award nominations in 2024.
During their time with Boat Rocker, Johnson and Donnelly also expanded their leadership team, appointing Samantha Racanelli as President of Production in 2023 to help scale their creative output.
Commenting on the new partnership with Sony, Johnson and Donnelly stated, “We have long admired Katherine Pope and are thrilled to be working alongside her and all of the brilliant people at Sony. We can’t wait to collaborate on fresh and enticing new projects together.”
TeaTime Pictures has also built an impressive track record on the film side. Their recent comedy Splitsville, directed by Michael Covino and starring Johnson, Covino, and Adria Arjona, premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Previous productions include the 2022 Sundance Audience Award winner Cha Cha Real Smooth, acquired by Apple TV+, and Am I OK?, which was picked up by Max. The company also produced Daddio, starring Johnson and Sean Penn, which screened at both Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals and was distributed by Sony Pictures Classics.
Dakota Johnson’s history with Sony extends to her role in Madame Web, further strengthening her creative ties with the studio. Johnson and TeaTime Pictures are represented by CAA.
