DreamWorks Animation’s journey back to Far Far Away continues to build momentum as Marcello Hernandez and Skyler Gisondo officially join the cast of Shrek 5. The two actors will voice Shrek and Fiona’s sons Fergus and Farkle, expanding the beloved ogre family for the franchise’s long awaited return.
Hernandez, known for his breakout presence on SNL and recent appearances in Happy Gilmore 2 and the upcoming comedy 72 Hours, brings a youthful comedic energy that aligns well with the spirited personality fans associate with Shrek’s children. Gisondo, who delivered a standout performance as Jimmy Olsen in last summer’s Superman and is widely recognized for roles in Licorice Pizza and Booksmart, adds an experienced comedic voice with strong emotional range. Together, their casting signals that the franchise is investing in a new generation of characters while still staying grounded in the familiar world audiences cherish.
Universal Pictures will release Shrek 5 on June 30 2027. The original cast of Mike Myers Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz return once again as Shrek Donkey and Fiona maintaining the core chemistry that has defined the series since the first film debuted in 2001. Another major addition is Zendaya who will voice Shrek and Fiona’s daughter Felicia bringing even more star power into the expanding family dynamic.
Rebooting and revitalizing Shrek has been a priority for both the studio and Chris Meledandri the head of Illumination. His influence on major animated hits including the Despicable Me and Minions franchises as well as The Super Mario Bros Movie underscores the high expectations surrounding this next chapter. With his involvement fans can anticipate a blend of nostalgia modern humor and visually ambitious animation.
Shrek 5 will be directed by Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn two creatives deeply rooted in the franchise’s history. Vernon co directed Shrek 2 and Madagascar 2 while continuing to voice the lovable Gingerbread Man. Dohrn contributed as a writer and artist on Shrek 2 and Shrek 3 served as head of story on Shrek Forever After and voiced the memorable antagonist Rumpelstilskin. Their shared legacy ensures that the tone heart and comedic rhythm of the series remain intact. Brad Ableson will join as co director bringing experience from Minions The Rise of Gru.
The film will be produced by Gina Shay known for her work on Shrek Forever After alongside Meledandri. With the four previous Shrek films earning over 2 point 9 billion dollars worldwide inspiring stage adaptations attractions and multiple spinoffs the return of the franchise arrives with both high anticipation and a massive global fan base.
The addition of Hernandez and Gisondo marks a fresh chapter for Far Far Away while honoring everything that made the original films iconic. Fans can expect a renewed adventure filled with family heart and the unmistakable humor that turned Shrek into one of animation’s most beloved universes.
