Disney's Zootopia 2 has stampeded into the history books, crossing $1 billion worldwide in just 17 days and becoming the fastest PG-rated movie to ever reach the milestone. The animated sequel, powered by massive turnout across North America and an explosive international run, has already amassed more than $986 million heading into its record-setting Friday.

Its domestic haul stands at $232.7 million, while overseas earnings have soared to more than $750 million. Those totals place the film among the year's top earners, joining only two other titles in the exclusive billion-dollar club: Disney's Lilo & Stitch remake and China's box-office juggernaut Ne Zha 2, the highest-grossing global release of 2025 with nearly $2 billion.

The achievement strengthens Disney's grip on the animated hall of fame. Thirteen animated films have ever surpassed the billion-dollar threshold — ten of them from the Mouse House. For Zootopia 2, the momentum mirrors the impact of the 2016 original while quickly outpacing its lifetime gross.

Disney Animation chief creative officer Jared Bush celebrated the milestone, praising the creative team for bringing "joy, imagination, and incredible thoughtfulness" to a sequel that audiences worldwide have embraced. He noted that the film's success reflects a renewed appetite for communal moviegoing, especially for family entertainment.

Opening ahead of Thanksgiving, Zootopia 2 posted staggering numbers with a $158 million domestic debut and $559 million worldwide over the extended holiday window. The results ranked as the second-largest Thanksgiving opening, the biggest launch ever for an animated film, and the fourth-largest global debut in box-office history.

Internationally, the film has delivered rare Hollywood strength in China, earning roughly $430 million and becoming the country's second-biggest non-local release after Avengers: Endgame. The franchise's footprint has grown in the region thanks to the popularity of Zootopia Land at Shanghai Disneyland.

Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, the sequel reunites Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) for a new case involving a mysterious reptilian newcomer voiced by Ke Huy Quan. Strong reviews, glowing word-of-mouth, and a lack of recent kid-focused releases created ideal conditions for a runaway hit.

As the film continues its global sprint, Zootopia 2 is on track to surpass the first movie's $1.02 billion finish, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
