Matt Reeves has officially confirmed a wave of major cast additions for The Batman: Part 2, further building anticipation for the highly awaited sequel to the 2022 hit film starring Robert Pattinson. The director took to X to introduce several new faces joining the dark and grounded Gotham universe, including Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and German actor Sebastian Koch.
Reeves revealed the news through a series of posts that immediately sparked excitement online. Welcoming Johansson to the project, Reeves shared an image of the actress from her 2013 science fiction film Under the Skin alongside the caption “Next exit, Gotham… Welcome.” Johansson’s involvement in the sequel was first announced back in December, but this marks one of the clearest confirmations directly from the filmmaker himself.
Sebastian Stan, best known for his role in Marvel productions, was also officially welcomed into Gotham. Reeves posted “In a Gotham state of mind… Welcome,” confirming the actor’s participation in the sequel. Reports indicate that Stan is set to portray Harvey Dent, the iconic Gotham district attorney whose story is deeply tied to Batman lore. Meanwhile, Charles Dance is believed to be playing Charles Dent, Harvey’s father, adding another intriguing layer to the character’s background.
Brian Tyree Henry, known for his performances in Joker and Eternals, has also joined the cast, although details regarding his role remain under wraps. Sebastian Koch, recognized for appearances in Homeland and A Good Day to Die Hard, is another new addition to the expanding ensemble. Returning cast members include Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
The sequel will also see the return of Jayme Lawson as Mayor Bella Reál and Gil Perez Abraham as Officer Martinez. Reeves recently teased fans with a photo of the Batmobile captioned “SnowTires,” hinting that part of the story could unfold during winter, giving Gotham an even colder and darker atmosphere than before.
While the storyline remains tightly guarded, Reeves has shared that the sequel will place greater focus on Bruce Wayne himself rather than solely on Batman. According to the director, the first film centered heavily on Batman’s detective journey, while The Batman: Part 2 aims to explore the man beneath the mask in a deeper way. Reeves explained that many Batman films move quickly beyond Bruce Wayne’s personal development and focus mainly on the rogues gallery, but he wants Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne to remain emotionally central to the story.
Filming for the sequel is currently underway in the U.K., with the movie scheduled for release on October 1, 2027. With its growing cast, darker setting and Reeves’ commitment to exploring Bruce Wayne on a more personal level, The Batman: Part 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated superhero films of the coming years.
