On April 19th 2024, Taylor Swift released one of the most anticipated albums this year. She announced the release of her album during this year’s Grammy’s. The ‘Tortured Poet’s Department ‘ is Taylor’s 11th studio album. The full anthology version of the album includes a whopping 31 new songs. The song that had fans talking was ‘thanK you aIMee.’ This is because they suspected that it was about her long feud with Kim Kardashian. When the letters in capital are arranged in order, the name KIM stands out.
The long-term feud started when Kim Kardashian leaked an edited audio after Taylor called out Kim’s ex husband, Kanye West for referring to her as a ‘bitch’ claiming that he made her famous in one of his songs. “You have fully manufactured frame job, in an illegal recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and put out to say to everyone that l was a liar,” Taylor said in her TIME 2023 person of the year article. She claims that that incident took her down psychologically to a place she has never been before.
In the song, Taylor sings, ‘And then she wrote headlines in the local paper, laughing at each baby step I’d take.’ This can be referenced to how Kim Kardashian has talked negatively about Taylor multiple times in episodes of her show, multiple podcasts, tweets and magazines. She also sings, ‘I wrote a thousand songs that you found uncool built a legacy which you can’t undo.’ This can be a reference to when Kim and North’s Tiktok account reposted a video mocking people who listen to Taylor Swift, as well as calling her cringe and uncool. Since the Tiktok account is managed by an adult because North is underage, many people suspected that Kim had reposted that video.
Taylor also claims that in as much as her mother is a saintly woman, she at times wishes that Kim was dead. She claims that she can’t forgive Kim for how she made her feel even though Kim claimed in many interviews that she is over the situation. North West, Kim’s daughter is a huge Taylor Swift fan and she would post Tiktoks dancing to Taylor’s songs. Taylor sings that one day Kim’s child will come home singing a song that the two of them know it’s about Kim.
Taylor thanks Kim for all she has put her through, claiming that she wouldn’t have been asking successfully as she is if not for what Kim made her go through.
