Kanye West, the Chicago artist, has reignited his feud with Drake, shedding light on his reasons during a recent interview on Justin LaBoy's podcast, The Download. Despite their joint Larry Hoover benefit concert in 2021, West revealed that tensions resurfaced, suggesting that Drake's actions "cuts his soul," implying a deeper ideological conflict "It cuts Drake's soul. It's like he signed his soul to the devil to not be cool with me. This is his job, to go against God, and that cuts his soul," He said.
In Future and Metro's "Like That (Remix)," Kanye squarely targets Drake, declaring, "You know we had to get the hooligans up here and we gon' take this p***y n***a out" at the onset of the remix, clearly referring to Drake.
West's decision to remix "Like That," a track originally by Future and Metro Boomin, was prompted by Future himself, as West stated, "Pluto called me, I went to the studio, laid that and then we went through the creative process...You know, everybody was very, very excited about the elimination of Drake. Not excited, we was energized." The remix, which takes direct aim at Drake, reflects the collective enthusiasm within the rap community for undermining Drake's dominance.
During the interview, West pointed to Drake's affiliation with Universal Music Group (UMG) and its CEO, Lucian Grainge, as a source of contention. West referred to Grainge as Drake's "rich baby daddy," stating, "Drake has a rich baby daddy named Lucian and Universal." West insinuated that Drake's allegiance to UMG compromises his independence and artistic integrity, saying, '"He's like, 'Man, my daddy got it.' You know what I'm sayin'? It's like, My daddy control the spins, my daddy control the DSPs. Drake has a rich baby daddy named Lucian."
