Taylor Swift has released her new song I Knew It, I Knew You for Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5.
The track, written with Jessie the cowgirl in mind, dropped on June 5 and will feature on the film's soundtrack when it arrives alongside the movie's release on June 19. Swift shared the moment with fans by posting a nostalgic throwback video of herself as a child dressed in cowgirl attire, underscoring her connection to the character.
In messages to fans, Swift described the process as both a challenge and a natural fit, saying "Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now... is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond."
She thanked director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton for inviting her into the project and praised Randy Newman for shaping the musical world of Toy Story across decades. She also highlighted her collaboration with longtime friend Jack Antonoff, noting they wrote the track with deep affection for the characters that shaped their childhoods.
Stanton, in a press release, said Swift's contribution was "incredible," adding that her immediate understanding of Jessie's journey made the song feel inseparable from the film. He described it as so deeply tied to the franchise that it seemed like "a long-lost family member."
Hints of Swift's involvement had surfaced weeks earlier, when Pixar teased fans with billboards in major cities featuring "TS" in the Toy Story font. The studio later shared a clip of Jessie dancing in front of one of the billboards, referencing lyrics from Swift's hit Shake It Off.
The release of I Knew It, I Knew You comes just months after Swift's 12th studio album The Life of a Showgirl, which arrived in October 2025.
Toy Story 5 will see Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of Andy's old toys navigating life with Bonnie, as they face the challenge of competing with a new electronic tablet for her attention. The film hits theaters on June 19.
