Sabrina Carpenter, the singer-songwriter behind two of this summer's biggest hits, has set a new UK chart record, according to the Official Charts Company. The Pennsylvania-born star has become the first female artist to simultaneously hold both the number one and number two positions on the singles chart for three consecutive weeks.

Her latest single, "Please Please Please", remains at the top spot this week, while her previous hit, "Espresso", holds steady at number two. Notably, "Espresso" recorded slightly more streams (7.1 million) over the past week compared to "Please Please Please" (7 million).

Carpenter joins a prestigious group of artists who have achieved this rare feat. The Beatles accomplished it in the 1960s on two separate occasions. More recently, Justin Bieber held the top two slots for four weeks in 2015, and Ed Sheeran did so for five weeks on two occasions in 2017. However, Carpenter is the first female artist to maintain the top two positions for three consecutive weeks. The only other female artists to have held the number one and two spots simultaneously are Madonna (1985) and Ariana Grande (2019).

Both of Carpenter's hits are set to feature on her forthcoming album, "Short ‘n Sweet", which is scheduled for release in August. The music video for "Please Please Please", starring Carpenter's boyfriend, actor Barry Keoghan, has amassed over 44 million views on YouTube, while "Espresso" has nearly twice as many views.

In other chart news, Missouri singer Chappell Roan scored her first top-five hit as her single "Good Luck, Babe!" rose to number four. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift's "The Tortured Poets Department" secured its eighth non-consecutive week at the top of the album chart, making it the best-selling album of the year so far with over 542,000 chart units.

Swift's immensely successful Eras Tour continues its European leg in Amsterdam this weekend and is set to return to London for five more dates in August. This week's highest new entry came from US rock band Imagine Dragons. Their latest album, "Loom", entered the charts at number five, becoming their sixth top-10 album.

Additionally, several artists experienced a significant boost in sales thanks to their performances at last weekend's Glastonbury Festival. Dua Lipa's latest album, "Radical Optimism", leaped from number 27 to number three following her Friday evening headline set, while two of her earlier albums re-entered the top 10. Sunday headliner SZA saw her 2023 release  "SOS" jump 11 places to number 19, and Shania Twain's greatest hits album returned to the top 40 for the first time since

2005, climbing 62 places to number 29 after her Sunday afternoon Legends Slot performance. Coldplay's headline set on Saturday helped propel their new track, "feelslikeimfallinginlove", to a new peak of number 16 on the singles chart.
