Grammy-nominated artist Post Malone was served with custody papers just 48 hours before taking the stage at Coachella 2025, court documents reveal. The legal confrontation marks the latest development in an escalating custody battle with his former fiancée.
According to court records obtained by Page Six, Malone's ex-fiancée Hee Sung "Jamie" Park hired a process server who tracked down the 29-year-old singer in a luxury apartment building's parking garage. The papers were delivered at 1 p.m. last Friday, mere days before his headlining performance at the music festival in Indio, California.
"He appeared unbothered as he performed in front of more than 100,000 fans," noted an eyewitness who attended Sunday's show. The performance featured special guests Jelly Roll and Ed Sheeran, with no indication of the singer's personal struggles.
Park's petition, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, seeks primary physical custody of their 2-year-old daughter, referenced in documents only as "DDP." The filing also requests joint legal custody while granting Malone visitation rights to the child, who was born in May 2022.
The legal maneuver revealed Park's identity publicly for the first time. The couple had maintained an exceptionally private relationship, with Malone announcing both their engagement and the birth of their daughter simultaneously in June 2022 without naming Park.
In a strategic countermove, Post Malone filed his own custody documents in Utah two days before Park submitted her California petition. Legal experts suggest this timing is significant, as the case will now proceed in Utah, where child support payments are typically lower than in California.
"Filing first establishes jurisdiction," explains family law attorney Rebecca Neumann. "This could significantly impact the financial aspects of the custody arrangement."
Sources close to the situation told TMZ that Park relocated to Los Angeles in early 2025, possibly to establish California residency for financial advantages in custody agreements. The former couple reportedly ended their relationship in late 2024.
Malone has since moved on romantically with Parsons School of Design student Christy Lee. Unlike his previous relationship, the new couple has been publicly affectionate, spotted dining in Rome, visiting bars in Idaho, and shopping in Paris.
Despite the legal drama, Malone's career continues to flourish. His Coachella performance received positive reviews, with Billboard calling it "a triumphant showcase of his versatility as an artist."
The "Sunflower" singer previously shared rare insights about fatherhood in a 2023 Apple Music interview, saying, "Having a baby really put a lot into perspective and it's really slowed me down a lot, but it's, like, the most beautiful thing."
