Frances Anderson, formerly known as Aubrey Anderson-Emmons from the hit sitcom Modern Family, has embarked on a new career as a musician, releasing her debut EP Drown. At 18, the actress (best remembered for playing Lily Tucker-Pritchett) has adopted her middle name as her stage identity, marking a deliberate shift from her television persona.

Explaining the name change, Anderson said it was both a nod to her legal name and a way to create a distinct space for her music. She described her new work as deeply personal, with many songs inspired by her childhood and high school experiences. "I hope people find it relatable," she said, adding with a smile, "I am a teenager, so I guess that's peak edginess."

Her journey into music began during the COVID-19 pandemic when she learned guitar. Formal songwriting followed in high school music classes, building on a lifelong love of singing and an enduring dream of performing on Broadway. In the fall of 2024, she recorded in a studio for the first time, solidifying her decision to step back from acting temporarily.

While Modern Family ended when she was 12, Anderson used the time after the show to attend mainstream school, which she said was essential for personal growth. Now, she plans to return to acting in the future but remains focused on music.

Her former castmates have been supportive, particularly Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played her on-screen father. "He's always been so supportive," Anderson noted, sharing that he frequently offers encouragement on her social media posts.

With Drown now available on all major platforms, Frances Anderson begins a new chapter, eager to connect with fans through her artistry and explore the possibilities that lie ahead in both music and acting.
