The Critics Choice Awards 2025 have been postponed again due to the devastating wildfires sweeping through Southern California. Initially scheduled for January 12 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, the event was first rescheduled for January 26. However, with the venue's proximity to the fire-stricken Pacific Palisades, officials have now pushed the ceremony to February. A new date will be announced soon, though it remains unclear if Barker Hangar will still host the event.
Chelsea Handler is set to host the awards for the third consecutive year, with Wicked, Conclave, and Shogun leading the nominations.
The wildfires, including the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire in Altadena/Pasadena, have caused widespread destruction. According to CalFire, the Palisades Fire is only 17% contained, while the Eaton Fire is at 35%. The fires have forced over 100,000 residents to evacuate, destroyed blocks of homes, and claimed 24 lives.
In the Palisades, luxury cars were abandoned along Sunset Boulevard as residents fled on foot when the fires broke out on January 7. Entire neighborhoods, including beachfront properties along Pacific Coast Highway, have been reduced to rubble, with the fires spreading at a rate of three football fields per minute. While the Getty Villa was reached by the flames, museum officials assured the public that its art and artifacts remain safe.
The Eaton Fire prompted the evacuation of a senior center, adding to the crisis in the region. Many victims are not wealthy or famous, but A-listers such as Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins, Mandy Moore, John Goodman, Miles Teller, Billy Crystal, and Jen Atkin have also lost their multimillion-dollar homes.
The fires have disrupted major events in Los Angeles. Along with the Critics Choice Awards, other canceled or postponed events include the BAFTA Tea Party, the AFI Awards, and premieres for Wolf Man, Unstoppable, Better Man, The Pitt, On Call, and The Last Showgirl.
Celebrities have taken to social media to share free resources for those affected by the fires. Despite the chaos, the entertainment industry and community are rallying to support displaced residents and those who have suffered losses in this ongoing disaster.
The Critics Choice Awards are expected to move forward in February, with officials working to adapt plans amid the crisis.
