Netflix has officially announced that the fifth and final season of Outer Banks will premiere on August 20, ending the popular adventure drama after five successful seasons. The streaming platform also unveiled a teaser trailer along with several first look images, giving fans their first glimpse of what lies ahead for the Pogues in their final adventure.

The announcement comes more than a year and a half after viewers last visited the world of Outer Banks. Netflix renewed the series for a fifth season in November 2024, shortly before the release of the second part of Season Four. At the time, creators and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke expressed their excitement about bringing the story to its planned conclusion.

In a message to fans, the creators said they hoped to bring their beloved Pogues home in the way they had imagined and planned years ago. They also described the fifth season as the last chapter of the series and said they believed it would be the show’s best season yet, inviting viewers to join them for one final adventure.

Season Five will consist of ten one hour episodes and will feature the return of several familiar faces. The cast includes Chase Stokes as John B, Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara, Jonathan Daviss as Pope, Carlacia Grant as Cleo, Drew Starkey as Rafe, Austin North as Topper, Fiona Palomo as Sofia, J Anthony Crane as Chandler Groff and Cullen Moss as Shoupe.

According to the official logline, the final season begins after the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco, leaving the Pogues devastated and at their breaking point. Stranded far from home and mourning the loss of one of their closest friends, the group has also lost the Blue Crown while continuing to face dangerous enemies from every direction.

The story will see Chandler Groff still on the run while Dalia and the Corsairs continue to close in. At the same time, the Kooks ensure that the Pogues have no home waiting for them when they return. Faced with overwhelming challenges, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo must rely on their instincts and an uneasy alliance with Rafe to survive.

Their mission becomes a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally achieve the freedom they have been chasing since the beginning of the series. The final season promises an emotional conclusion as the Pogues fight to avenge their best friend and bring their journey to an unforgettable end.

Alongside the premiere announcement, Netflix released a teaser trailer and several first look images featuring the returning cast, offering fans an early preview of the action, emotion and high stakes that will define the final chapter of Outer Banks.
