Jeremy Clarkson is making a brief but exciting return to motoring television after announcing his departure from the genre last year. The former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter, 64, will appear in a special episode of Car SOS, set to air in March 2025.
Clarkson parted ways with motor show hosting following The Grand Tour’s conclusion in September 2024, ending his long on-screen collaboration with James May and Richard Hammond. He has since been taking care of his farm, the subject of his Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm, and his other business ventures, including the Hawkstone brewery and his newly opened Oxfordshire pub, The Farmer’s Dog.
Despite shifting to farming, Clarkson was unable to leave his love for cars behind. In the following Car SOS season, he is joined by presenters Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townshend to give an old Land Rover Discovery Series 1 a new lease of life. The grand reveal of the newly restored car was filmed at Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm, which has gained popularity thanks to his Amazon show.
Host Tim Shaw revealed that Clarkson was keen to proceed with the scheme, even to the point of getting a full coachload of people onto his property for the big reveal. “Jeremy was happy for us to bring in a full coach load of people. I mean, think about it—60 strangers arriving on your property!” Shaw told The Daily Star.
He described Clarkson as ”warm, friendly, and, of course, normally sarcastic and funny,” with a clear interest in the team and owner of the car. Clarkson’s brief return to motoring TV comes after James May commented on The Grand Tour finale. May explained that he, Clarkson, and Hammond all concurred to complete the show while they were still at the top of their game. “The plan was to bring down the car show format safely rather than crash-fly it into a cliff.
We cleared the cliff by mere inches, but I believe it’ll make it,” May said, hinting it was time for a younger group of presenters to take the reins.
Meanwhile, Clarkson stays active in the entertainment industry. His hit show Clarkson’s Farm has grown more popular, with a fourth season to arrive on the airwaves shortly and a fifth season commissioned. His straightforward and irreverent approach to farming has pleased audiences, demonstrating that his skill is not limited to the field of cars.
Through his Car SOS feature, Clarkson is also reminding audiences that, although he loves being a farmer, his love for motoring has not faded away. The show, part of the program’s 13th season, will be aired on National Geographic on March 13, 2025, and gives audiences another chance to watch Clarkson in the automotive world.
