Sinclair Broadcast Group, the largest owner of ABC affiliate stations in the United States, has asked late-night host Jimmy Kimmel to take further action following remarks he made about the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. The company, which suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! from airing on its stations, is now calling for a direct apology to Kirk’s family as well as financial contributions.

In a formal statement, Sinclair described Kimmel’s comments as “inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country.” The company said that while removing the program from its stations was an immediate step, more needed to be done to address the concerns raised by viewers and the Kirk family.

The letter issued by Sinclair included specific requests. “Mr. Kimmel’s remarks were inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country. We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities. Sinclair also calls upon Mr. Kimmel to issue a direct apology to the Kirk family. Furthermore, we ask Mr. Kimmel to make a meaningful personal donation to the Kirk family and Turning Point USA.”

According to the company, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will remain suspended from Sinclair-affiliated stations until it is satisfied that appropriate steps have been taken. The group framed its demands as part of a broader expectation that national broadcast platforms maintain high standards when addressing sensitive issues.

For supporters of Kirk, an apology and donation would represent acknowledgment of the family’s grief and the seriousness of the situation. For Sinclair, it underscores the belief that broadcasters carry a responsibility not only to entertain but also to show sensitivity during moments of national loss. While Kimmel has not yet responded publicly to Sinclair’s demands, his next steps may determine both the program’s future on Sinclair’s network and his broader reputation in the aftermath of the criticism.
