Married Indiana teacher has been accused of raping students as young as 13 years while wearing “scream” masks and threatening to commit suicide if they ever told anyone. Brittany Fortinberry has been charged with a spread of sexual abuse charges as students continue to come out.
Fortinberry was also accused of sending her 15 year old student images of a stripper pole, adult toys and her nude body. Additionally, they have had sexual encounters and pressured him not to tell anyone. She also offered the boys between $100-$800 in exchange for explicit photos of their genitals. According to one of her victims, Fortinberry had spent close to $600 on him and other boys.
When Fortinberry was first charged, the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville released a statement, saying they have been notified of serious allegations against a former employee. “During the individual’s employment period with the MSD of Martinsville, there were no identified reports of sexual misconduct to the administration or the anonymous tip line. We want to assure families that the MSD of Martinsville conducts a full criminal background check for all new employees, as part of the standard hiring procedures. The background check report indicated no criminal activity for this former employee,” the district said in a statement.
According to reports, Fortinberry’s husband was aware of the sexual abuse going on between his wife and minors. Nicholas Fortinberry would threaten to “slaughter” the victims if they dared to expose his wife. He was charged with failure to report and intimidating the victims. A victim also recounted that Fortinberry would sexually assault them after her children have fallen asleep, urging them to “just let it happen.”
Prosecutors have filed a motion to add 10 counts of child molestation, eight counts of dissemination of matter harmful to a minor, five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of sexual misconduct with a minor. These charges are in addition to the three counts of sexual misconduct, one count of dissemination of matter harmful to minors and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor that had previously been filed.
