Speaking out is the only survivor of the Air India plane crash. The British national described his experience of the moments leading up to the tragedy, when the plane had just left the airport, hours after Vishwash Kumar Ramesh left the London-bound flight AI171, which crashed down on June 12 in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, killing every other person on board.
"The plane crashed after a loud noise within 30 seconds," Vishwash told The Hindustan Times. "Everything happened so fast."
In the wake of the crash, the British national, whose brother was also on board the Boeing 787-8, also shared his first impressions.
Vishwash told the local Indian news outlet News18, "I was surrounded by bodies and pieces of the plane." "I was seized by someone and placed in an ambulance."
As reported by Sky News, Vishwash also stated right after the collision, "I don't know where my brother is," according to his surviving brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh. No other passengers are visible to me. I have no idea how I got out of the plane or how I'm still alive."
From his own point of view, Nayan continued, "His survival is a miracle." However, what about my other brother's other miracle?
In addition to the 12 crew members on board, Air India confirmed after the accident that 169 Indians, 52 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian were among the passengers who died.
In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter) on June 12, Air India expressed its sincere sympathies to the families of the departed. "The needs of everyone impacted, their families, and loved ones are now the sole focus of our efforts."
Officials think the crash may ultimately claim more lives than those on board because the plane struck a building where medical students were eating lunch, according to NBC News.
King Charles III responded to the tragedy by expressing his sympathies and stating that he and Queen Camilla are "desperately shocked by the terrible events" that have occurred in India.
The royal posted a statement on X saying, "As they await news of their loved ones, our special prayers and deepest sympathy are with the families and friends of all those affected by this appallingly tragic incident across so many nations." "At this most tragic and traumatic time, I would especially like to honor the heroic efforts of the emergency services and everyone else offering assistance and support."
