Elon Musk has sparked a new wave of controversy after urging the public to boycott Netflix, accusing the streaming platform of promoting what he calls a “woke agenda” through its inclusion of transgender and LGBTQ+ themes in its programming. The billionaire entrepreneur, who frequently voices strong opinions on social media, took to X (formerly Twitter) to call on his followers to cancel their Netflix subscriptions, claiming the platform’s content is inappropriate for children.
The backlash began when Musk reposted a clip from the animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park, which features a transgender main character. The Tesla CEO criticized the show’s portrayal of gender identity, writing that such content was “not okay” for young audiences. He followed up with a series of posts accusing Netflix of using children’s entertainment to push ideological narratives, calling on parents to “cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.”
Musk also referenced several other Netflix shows, claiming that the platform’s storytelling has become politically motivated and one-sided. In his view, the company is prioritizing social messaging over quality entertainment. He claimed that he personally canceled his own Netflix subscription, arguing that the streaming service “lost its way” by focusing on activism rather than art.
While Musk’s remarks received widespread support from some of his followers, they also sparked sharp criticism from many who accused him of spreading intolerance and misinformation about gender diversity. Industry figures and LGBTQ+ advocates defended Netflix’s approach, noting that inclusive representation helps foster acceptance and provides visibility for marginalized communities.
Zach Barack, the voice actor behind the transgender character in Dead End: Paranormal Park, responded directly to Musk’s comments, saying that the show had a positive impact on young viewers and “helped kids feel seen and understood.” Barack emphasized that visibility for trans and queer youth is essential, especially in an era of increasing hostility toward LGBTQ+ people. Netflix has not issued an official response to Musk’s boycott campaign, and the company’s stock and subscription data have shown no Immediate impact.
